People we serve

The neighborhood we serve is economically disadvantaged, with a median household income of $15,000 per year. The ethnic mix is 65% African American, 19% white, 8% Hispanic, and 8% Asian. In 32% of households, no one in the family is employed. A staggering 44% of residents over 25 years of age lack high school diplomas. Only 10% are homeowners, with a median home value of $45,000 – less than half the county-wide average. Within eight blocks of City on a Hill, there are 5,400 households, with a total population of 12,795. Of the 1,312 households with children, 76% are single parent homes.
